Homeowners · Find your Master GC

Every town in New England has one accountable builder. Find yours.

The Master GC program divides New England into 40 territories and puts exactly one general contractor in charge of each. They earned the seat through The ADU Exchange review: licensing, insurance, ADU track record, references, and how they treat homeowners. Type your town and meet them.

What happens after you find them

A Master GC isn't a lead list. It's one builder, in order, from the first question to the certificate of occupancy.

1

Feasibility first

Before anyone draws a floor plan: zoning, lot size, septic or sewer, and what your town actually requires. You can run a free check yourself or have the Master GC walk it with you.

2

One conversation

You talk to the builder who holds your territory, not a bidding war of strangers. They already know the local building department, inspectors, and what has been approved on streets like yours.

3

The Ecosystem behind them

Financing through the Bank Vault, attorneys and permit help through the Court House, vetted trades, and plain-English guides in The ADU Exchange University. The Master GC is the front door to all of it.

4

Your contract, your choice

The ADU Exchange is an education and connection platform. We don't build, and we don't take a cut of your project. Your agreement is with the contractor you choose, on terms you read and sign.

Selected, not purchased

No one buys the Master GC title. Each builder passes a review covering licensing, insurance, ADU experience, references, and homeowner practices before they hold a territory.

One per territory, by design

Exclusivity is accountability. When a single builder is responsible for every ADU referral in a region, their reputation in that region is the whole business.

Local knowledge counts

Territories follow real town lines, not ZIP codes. Your Master GC works where you live and knows which towns run on septic, which require design review, and what gets approved.

Questions homeowners ask

Short answers. The long ones are in the University.

What exactly is a Master GC?

A licensed general contractor selected by The ADU Exchange to be the single accountable builder for ADU projects in one of 40 New England territories. One territory, one builder.

Do I have to use the Master GC for my town?

No. You can work with any contractor you like, and the rest of the Ecosystem (feasibility tools, guides, lenders, attorneys, trades) is open to you either way. The Master GC is the builder we stand behind for your territory.

Does it cost me anything to use this?

Nothing. The ADU Exchange is free for homeowners. Your only contract is with the contractor you hire, and you should read it before you sign it.

My territory says "Selection in progress." Now what?

It means the seat hasn't been awarded yet, and we won't award it to the first applicant just to fill the map. Start your ADU plan anyway: your project goes to the front of the line when the Master GC is named, and the Ecosystem works for you in the meantime.

How were the territories drawn?

Along town and county lines, sized so each territory holds roughly 100,000 homes with ADU potential. That keeps every Master GC close enough to know the local building departments personally.

Are the cost ranges on the card a quote?

No. They are territory-wide ranges for context. Site conditions, utilities, septic, and finish level move real numbers a lot. Get a written proposal from a licensed contractor before you budget.
